Hi I’m a current Graduate student, hoping to get my foot in the door for Deloitte Healthcare Consulting, Accenture CDP, or EY specifically within Chicago Offices. Is there anyone open to connecting and speaking on their experience being hired? I have previous experience working prior to my degree so hoping to get insight on how I can best score an interview. If you’re also open to providing a referral that would be a bonus!

You get a new job that pays what you’re worth. Just be careful that what you are worth and what you think you are worth are reasonably close. Seriously, the start of a new year is a great time to find opportunities.
Chief
Compensation isn’t a topic or brought up in year end reviews.
Quitting
Have an offer in hand and ask if they are willing to match
I had no success. Spoke to my practice lead and basically got “it is what it is.” Was said in nicer terms but still not wildly helpful. They’ll cop out and say it’s a larger Accenture decision beyond the practice level or some BS like that so you have no clear avenue of where to escalate or get further clarification.
How are you able to assess if it’s not competitive against the market? Do you have the compensation data from your analytics team in HR?
If you’re not a job that’s regarded as competitive talent within the market, then the chances of you illustrating to make more cash are just not there. On average you’d get a 2-3% increase yearly or 10% every 3 years, but now it’s increased to 4% yearly or 15% 3 years. It’s just how the business work.
Have an honest discussion with your people manager. At the point of YE, the decisions are already final so you can’t have any expectation of having it changed. However, depending on your skills, performance, business need, etc there is a possibility they can make adjustments later. But the start is having an honest discussion and making it clear that you intend to take action if they don’t (and be prepared to do so if they choose to take no action).
crayon based illustration on 8.5 x 11 put on your boss' desk may help you get that bump.
If you think you’re underpaid relative to your peers, you’re a good performer and you don’t want to leave your job then make the argument. I did at my last review (but my firm does discuss comp numbers with me) and it got me a big bump.
You have to be careful the way you word it and focus on your performance and contributions to the firm rather than why you want it personally. Internal data points help, external data points are meaningless (unless you have a job offer in hand but that is a whole nother conversation since at that point you are threatening to quit).
Good luck!
Get another offer and they might meet you halfway
Get another job offer or be the absolute best person on your team. You need to come to the convo with arrows in the quiver.
If you think you’re underpaid, go interview, get an offer, and share it. However, you run the risk of your company saying “goodbye, good luck”. Think about what’s more important to you - if you like your job/team, this numbers game will always get you burned (either now or in the long run).
Once your in at x salary that’s it. Want a big jump. Find a new employer to pony up more $$$$. Good luck 🍀
