What are your thoughts on notes and/or CDs that do not pay a specific interest rate, but are linked to an index (S&P 500, or DJIA)?

Why have a CD if it’s going to be a variable rate? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of a CD?

I could see this type of product as a baby step into the stock market. Other than the FDIC insurance, which is a nice upside, I would rather invest in in the index directly. As long as you pick a high volume index with a lot of liquidity like SPY (as opposed to some niche, speality ETF) you should be able to exit anytime you want. The market linked CD however has strict rules for exiting

Do they fluctuate up? Do they fluctuate down? Are the dividends passed through? What expense ratio is charged vs service provided?

I really don’t know much about them, that is why I was asking the question here. It appears you can get a return equal to the underlying index upon maturity if the index appreciates in price. If the index depreciates you get your principle back. Some of these notes/CD are capped on what they will return while others aren’t.

These are issued by FDIC insured banks? They sound like other structured products. I see the advantage for banks, but less so for investors.

These are specifically issued by Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Canada, and Goldman Sachs.

Anyone ever have experience negotiating a new offer to include unvested 401k match and stock grants from your current employer? I hate leaving money on the table but there are some good roles out there. I’m not fully vested in my current 401k yet and my stock grants haven’t matured yet either. This would be at a global director level.

Really hoping to avoid judgment on this post. Has anyone had to sign up for government or state assistance after becoming unemployed? Was the process difficult? I have a young son who's at home with me all day right now and I'm looking for a job that I can work from home, but in the meantime we need to eat and I need to pay my rent. Thanks for any advice.

My monthly salary is around $6.4k after-tax. Living in NYC. Do you think it’s reasonable that I pay:

- about $2k on food and etc.
My saving goals is around $3k so been trying to adjust my monthly spending.

I love my SO but get unsure....they just went on a friends trip and came back and randomly said going on another one in two weeks. I said I wanted to spend time together so they came back next morning and said let's go away just us instead, which is awesome and I am happy BUT is it a red flag? They used to always be all about spending time together and now seems like I have to remind them to put us first in the past month. We both work hard and have kids so life is more complicated. Vent over.

Noob question on selling puts- I just sold a weekly put that I WANT to get assigned. The stock fluctuate a few dollars a day so I’m looking for a specific price to own the shares at vs entering a limit order. The stock has already gone below my selected strike price by a 30 cents today but I haven’t been assigned the shares 🤔. Is it only by expiration day or am I missing something?
