Exit to what?

like

I find most in house positions require some mix of general federal corporate tax and international. It’s a rare company these days that doesn’t have an international component- and the ones that don’t, typically don’t have the need for dedicated in house tax counsel

like

Any area of tax is a cause of concern for most employers. Rather than looking for which has the best exit opportunities, become a specialist in one, understand the ins and out, understand stress points, and make a strong business case when you’re ready to move to your next opportunity

like

International has most positions

like

International if you’re exiting from an accounting firm. It’s the most complex and code heavy. General federal tax practice if you’re exiting a law firm.

like

International. Transactional is pretty limited unless you consider Big 4 an exit.

like

Why would you want to exit if you’re thinking of getting into it?

I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?

My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at
Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.

L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.
