Changing the angle could mean any number of things, but if you feel like your story has been undermined you should challenge that. Generally speaking, one would work with an editor during the process and everyone would have a good idea of what the story would comprise. You should try to get things edited to where you're satisfied with the content. If things are so off the rails that you can't stand behind it, you should ask that your byline not appear.
If the new angle changes the story’s integrity, push back politely. If it is just tone or framing, let it go. Choose your battles, or you will wear yourself out.
You fight. If edits gut your angle, it’s no longer your story — it’s someone else’s. Sure, compromise on style or length, but if the heart of it shifts, push back. Otherwise, you’re a typist.
