AA’s boarding strategy would actually be the best of the major airlines if it didn’t make a key assumption that is clearly inaccurate.
It assumes passengers will wait until their group is boarding or next to board. As we all know, this couldn’t be further from the truth. As a result, you get a mob of gate lice with no clear way to line up/approach the gate given the sheer number of groups
But it’s unfortunate since giving formal group numbers to all of the preboarding groups is actually a great idea in theory.
Nothing grinds my gears more than leisure travelers who don’t know how / aren’t experienced with travel. Can’t stand dealing with rookies
Experienced that as well. Drives me nutso. The line to board had already formed well in advance.
Yeah and the worst is that I heard one of those group 1 impostors saying "it doesn't matter".. 🤬
Never understand why people are so eager to get on a plane and wait in a long slow line…
especially if it’s a domestic flight where a simple carryon will do.
Before I had airline status I’d just wait till the end near the gate and walk easily and comfortably, still do the same now that I have status or if I’m flying a business.
Only exceptions I’d make are for international flights where people have huge carry ons and can really jack up space but then again I’m willing to pay for for economy + so never seem to have a problem with finding space for luggage.

Hmmm… it’s actually the opposite. Domestic planes run out of over head space so people board quickly to get that coveted space vs international where there’s a lot more overhead bin space and checking in a bag is generally free.
