Hi guys, Now VMware is offering me a 35% percent hike of what I am earning at DellEmc. I just completed one year at DellEmc. Total 2.7YOE But I don't like to go out of Dell, due to some personal commitments I am planning to switch.
Is it a good time to switch?
Can I talk with my manager ?
Are they able to hike the salary of what VMware is offering? Please suggest me.

Bonuses?
Lol apparently they do exist
Has anyone ever thought about this?
We spend so much time pushing incremental business on our clients. Those additional SOW’s and management fees are coming back to the agency due to something I sold in. I would LOVE to negotiate commission off of incremental sell-ins.
Us agency folk are sales people - we pitch, we win, we bring in new business. We should be compensated as such.
Will it ever happen? ... probably not
In theory if salary structures incentivized commissions based on wins, if there are no wins then yes, salaries would be hurt since you’d only be pulling in base (vs base plus incentives). It’s not sharing the losses though - this isn’t stake/equity conversation.
Some would say that this is the exact point of bonuses. Those that are pitching and consistently bringing in new business, driving organic growth for the company, etc. get compensated in some sort of way. The problem is, that as evidence by the comments above, bonuses are by no means common practice. So while the people go above and beyond to grow revenue, it’s exclusively at the hands of getting the company and leadership richer. So it’s almost like why bother being a top performer.
*before anyone comes for me saying “if you don’t like how the game is played, open your own shop/do your own thing, etc”, I recognize that working to get company/leadership richer is part of the game. So I’m stressing the word “exclusively” above
*also I still do what I can to go above and beyond in my job. The above is more for discussions sake.
Bonuses?
I think I got a hoodie once
Aside from gift cards at Xmas, which stopped 20 years ago, nothing ever.
I remember the firs time I got a gift card. My boss made it seem like she fought to get our team something bc we worked so much harder than everyone else. Idk what I expected but it was a $25 preloaded gc. I almost would have rathered getting nothing.
I got 5K cause I tried to leave the agency
A gram and a pat on the bottom

I got 14K at the end of Q2, I think Q3 is lighter so not sure yet (but will find out next week)—austin small agency.
Also austin, previous agency did profit sharing—2019 net was 18% of salary. 2018 net was, like, 30% of salary.
Ah I see - thank you!
Bonuses? What is this? Accenture!?? Lol
...wait a minute >_>

I got bonuses every year pre-Accenture. Not expecting this year given covid
10k, 20k, 5k. Depends how the agency did that year. Didn’t start happening until VP got added to CD title. Got a 3k bonus one time at a permalance CW job ~2010. That’s was cool.
Sounds like I need to pivot to a new agency ... we do not have any formal bonus structure outside of informal spot bonuses that are basically on pause for the foreseeable future.
I got $6000 & $4000 at review time at IPG agency. Bonuses are taxed quite high. I’d rather get the money in pay. Every single place I’ve worked since has no formal bonus structure in place so we didn’t get shit.
They withhold more tax but you are not taxed more on your return when you file...
Got $15k when I worked on the revenue side in publishing. Base is higher than my total comp in new role without bonus though.
Usually 5K at the holidays. After taxes it’s usually more like 3K 🥴
I’ve gotten about the same jr/mid level at Dentsu and IPG agencies.

A few hundred bucks at the holiday party for everyone. Don’t think the real Omnicom bonuses kick in until EVP or up. SVP gets free monthly parking.
I got 15k. But not consistently.
Different places:
$0
$2000
$3500
I'm at a small shop. Got $4,000 this year. Previously got $2,500-$3,000.
Around $10k with quarterly bonuses (proportional to our quarterly goals) and then the annual merit bonus
