Bonuses?
Lol apparently they do exist
Has anyone ever thought about this?
We spend so much time pushing incremental business on our clients. Those additional SOW’s and management fees are coming back to the agency due to something I sold in. I would LOVE to negotiate commission off of incremental sell-ins.
Us agency folk are sales people - we pitch, we win, we bring in new business. We should be compensated as such.
Will it ever happen? ... probably not
In theory if salary structures incentivized commissions based on wins, if there are no wins then yes, salaries would be hurt since you’d only be pulling in base (vs base plus incentives). It’s not sharing the losses though - this isn’t stake/equity conversation.
Some would say that this is the exact point of bonuses. Those that are pitching and consistently bringing in new business, driving organic growth for the company, etc. get compensated in some sort of way. The problem is, that as evidence by the comments above, bonuses are by no means common practice. So while the people go above and beyond to grow revenue, it’s exclusively at the hands of getting the company and leadership richer. So it’s almost like why bother being a top performer.
*before anyone comes for me saying “if you don’t like how the game is played, open your own shop/do your own thing, etc”, I recognize that working to get company/leadership richer is part of the game. So I’m stressing the word “exclusively” above
*also I still do what I can to go above and beyond in my job. The above is more for discussions sake.
I’ve received a 3k and 5k bonus at mid-senior levels but am curious how that stacks up against others and what bonus structures look like at group levels+.
Have heard that they receive bonuses against certain growth targets but idk what that looks like
What are considered midsenior levels?
Last year I got 1200. Was told 5k-12k was typical when hired but not hitting revenue and Covid happened.
$0
I’ve never received a bonus :(
😣 at this rate we’ll see if any of us ever do again

60k last year. This year? Who knows.
I got bonuses at 360i written into my offer letter (everyone did at that time, not sure about now) which were about $3k twice a year. I got a surprise bonus at my last gig that was unexpected. $5k around EOY based on business and personal performance, mid-level.
