PMP is a project management certification. As with all the other certs… it depends on what they are looking for
PMP certification can only be achieved once you have a good amount of PM experience. Its not for the entry level aspirants but for people already working in PM space. It helps them to secure a senior positions in the organization.

From what I’ve seen, most companies are moving from waterfall into agile, so the PMP has somewhat limited use cases in industry. The federal government, however, can view a PMP as being as strong as an MBA (having 1 of the 2 is sometimes a requirement). If you keep seeing PMP in required or preferred qualifications for jobs you want, then I’d go for it.
Adding to MD1, it depends on the role you are applying for but project management has always been among top 10 skills / roles in the market.
