McKinsey & Company I received an offer from McKinsey & Company in 2021 and I’ll be starting later this year after graduation. Obviously because of the pandemic, inflation is slowly trending upwards. Has anyone asked for a base salary increase before even starting the job? Any advice on how to approach this?
Level 10.1 how much hike and vpay?

I am an SVP creative director and I have a car paid for by the agency, I have gotten my annual bonus of 15% every year, they pay for excellent gym membership, airline club memberships, travel to Cannes. And other things. Just tell them what you expect. If it’s a big US agency they understand European and Asian expectationsand moderate their policies accordingly. One thing about American advertising agencies that truly surprised me is not all employees are treated equally. When I got this year‘s bonus I had to promise I would tell other employees that I have not received a bonus this year. It’s very much everyone for themselves here, nothing is transparent. But everything you asked for is perfectly acceptable if you’re coming from another region.
I’m shocked by this haha. I’d love to know where you work and go there.
Lol none of the above. The compensation package is exactly what juniors/mids/seniors/ACDs get, except obviously more money. The only thing I can think of is a higher budget for relocation fee, and SOME agencies might help with temporary housing (1 month) if you’re moving for the job.
By office phone I assume you mean a work issued mobile phone? If so, that really depends on your workplace, not really your position in my experience.
To clarify I’m, speaking from LA & NYC experience. Not sure if other cities do it differently.
Everything is on the table when you get a new job. More as you move up. It’s up to you to ask.
I am floored by people who don’t think to do this simple task. They rely on their recruiter to tell them what they are getting and most of the time, recruiters don’t know everything you can ask for. You have be proactive.
If you are at the stage of an interview where this is the topic, you are not going to lose the opportunity by asking for these things.
The most they will tell you is no, or play their hand and give you insight into what they can offer you now.
Damn thats a hot title.
If you’re relocating from Europe and they want you they can cover a lot of expenses for you. I’ve heard of housing costs being covered for around 6 months, a significant budget for all new furniture (I’ve seen 40k-50k as the highest). Company cars aren’t an agency thing really, but even client side companies are doing this less and less.
Mmmmh. Thanks for the reality check, I guess Europe’s been treating me too well...so would it feel inappropriate if I’d tried to negotiate a yearly bonus?
Definitely no car. A lot of CD’s get bonuses, but they’re tied to performance (awards, revenue earned, etc...)
CD’s making a much higher base salary here though.
Feel free to ask OP, but just be prepared to be turned down.
If you run an account, you may get a yearly bonus. But it’s almost always discretionary. Meaning no set amount and if the agency isn’t doing well, non existent.
Other than a mobile phone, almost everything else is built into your salary.
In the past, you could try for perks when flying or something. That’s less and less of a thing.
But you could always ask.
Oh also definitely can cover flights home- for a family of 4 they covered 3 flights each a year
Agencies are hiring in the next six months? 🦠
No to the above at GCD either.
Nope. Being a CD isn’t what it used to be. You’re talking about ECD or above. And a car? That’s unheard of.
A car lol
I’ll add my two cents. No perks as a CD. None. CCO is where it’s at now.
If you run a car account you can get a car.
Disagree with some of these posts. Yearly bonus is negotiable, phone is often paid for. No car, for the most part, though I’ve seen it on a few car accounts in the past.
