We gave our 6yr old a Nintendo switch. He plays the Mario games with cousins and friends. Number of hours is limited during week. His younger brothers now play too, but I don't think much of it. I also enjoy playing the game with them and don't want them to always come in last place when they're playing with friends
Hed usually good. The penalty for overage is twice the minutes lost from future use. Compliance gets him access to more games from our local library.
I don't set hard minutes either so he can finish a level.
I also try to highlight good times to play so he knows I'm getting him play time
Not sure of the right answer but we let our 6 and 4 yos play (mostly) educational games on the phone; e.g. Duolingo, Impulse, Math games etc. Most they’ll play in terms of “proper” games is Angry Birds.
Keen to hold off on the whole Roblox/Minecraft stuff until they’re older. Especially the built-in chat functions which is something we didn’t have growing up.
The hypocrisy is that I’m a huge gamer - just got some CODM kills while commuting back from the office 💪
Nice lol
I’d avoid them as long as possible or at least until they are settled in school.
Educational games are a risk because whilst they seem to educate kids, they sort of don’t learn how to learn. Learning is gamified so they need that dopamine hit and positive feedback at every step. The game robs you of your concentration and for young kids learning how to focus this can be damaging.
