^forget what I said before, how do I sign up for her situation? #levelexpert
^do it! Automate what you can (cleaning, groceries, shopping), plan ahead for the important people and things in your life and don't beat yourself up on the little things (dishes :))
IT IS INSANE TO BOTH WORK FULL TIME AND HAVE KIDS DO NOT ATTEMPT
I work remotely 100% of the time. Also, live-in child care who also does our grocery shopping, a cleaning service, and Amazon Prime. We also live 1 mile from my husband’s work so he can bike to work quickly and not waste time commuting.
Yeah, more of the burden is on me. We have a kid and none of our family lives nearby. I think I need to invest in a cleaning person.
I throw money at the problem. Cheaper to hire a cleaner, pay for laundry services, order groceries than it is to back off on your careers
Same goes for the kid. We have a kid and a nanny who I pay exorbitantly. It’s worth every penny on days like today when she happily showed up at our house at 4:45am so I could get on a plane
😊 It’s easier to get a remote gig when you’re not manager/VP level (as a lot of people commenting here are). That’s why I plan on staying Sr CW or Copy Sup, max. I’d rather keep my setup than move up to higher ranks. But even if you can’t work remotely, my advice is to unabashedly pay to make your life as easy as possible. That’s what our philosophy is.
Get a cleaning lady, order groceries, and try not to let those little annoying things sneak into your marriage (I know easier said than done!) but the last thing anyone wants to debate when they’ve worked 70 hours in a week is the dishes.
I don't know how it works long-term. Most senior leadership I see have a spouse that either doesn't work or has more flexible working arrangements, but that won't ever be the case for me. Add kids into the mix and it's an unsustainable cluster.
It is critical to start outsourcing some of the household work to save your sanity (cleaning service, nanny, take out) but that definitely add$ up.
OP, just a thought. If you’re a CD and your spouse is a doctor, how about springing for a cleaning lady? You guys probably make 500k a year.
My fiancee is an attorney and I travel alot in spurts for work. We have a 10 year old (just now getting around to getting married haha). We have weekly housekeepers and family helps with her 3 nights a week after school. The other nights one of us leaves early to get her, comes home and cooks dinner. We alternate this based on schedules. We eat together as a family at least two nights a week usually three nights a week. The 2 of us eat together nightly although sometimes it's not until 830. Since I'm in advertising I can go in late (relatively speaking, talking 930-10a) so I handle the morning routine unless I'm traveling. We both work as we want to live in a nice neighborhood and own our home. We both have to do a fair amount of work remotely which helps with schedule flexibility. It's not always ideal but it works for us, we do try to prioritize family as often as we can.
My husband is in the Navy, we have two kids & two dogs. We always account for a housekeeper and I live off of Amazon. Less stress on everyone and more time for adventures ☺️.
My wife working full time, me offshore quite often. Kid is in full time school, has learned to open doors alone. Not sure what you do, but without cleaning and household help, we still have a clean 1600sqft flat. Just clean up after all your activities and keep the television, smartphone, tablet and other distraction off at home.
Instacart, dog walker, house cleaner.💅
👆 handy, peapod, blue apron, etc.
Fresh Direct, Jet and Amazon for everything we need in the house. I can’t remember setting foot in a grocery store last. Stock up. And get plenty of help. Which means you don’t actually enjoy the money you are making because you spend it on other people from watching your kids to cutting your grass
Fresh direct. House cleaner. Daycare. Instant pot. And for Mothers/Fathers Day we gift the other a hotel room and spa appointment for 24hrs off duty.
