What is the quickest way to adopt/conform to your new boss’s writing style?

Just started a new gig. Instead of looking at the redlines between yours and the boss’s, what else would you recommend?

Depends. Is it good/better than yours or just different? I always just write in my style and let any reviewers do their thing. If it’s their name going on the document I leave it as long as it’s just stylistic. If it’s mine, I do the last edit in my voice

likesmart

Take notes on their edits. Start a word document to record their preferences. Try to come up with a phase that summarizes each of their high level practices (e.g., loves detail, loves long sentences, likes things concise, hates commas, etc.). Check that list until you get used to it.

like

In addition to the above, emphasize learning their formatting style. Do they like bullets? Colon and lists? Semicolon usage?

Just like the bar exam, if your response physically LOOKS like what they’re looking for, they are less likely to examine as closely.

Use AI and feed a few of your boss’s examples. Ask it to develop a style guide. Make sure to clarify what the environment and task are—“I’m an associate writing for my boss…”

Sanctions for? Publicly filed documents being fed to AI and asking for a style guide?

If we’re talking about brief writing, I like to read a couple examples of their past work. I usually find I pick up on their voice and style quirks without really thinking about it.

Have never done this but wonder if you could take what oc1 says above and put it into ai and have it help

How does a sole engineer at a company go about getting management to actually care how production machines run? I’m the only mechanical engineer at my company dealing with a half dozen cranky production managers who think that I can “work my magic” on a machine. It’s not magic, just ignorance about the machine actually works. How to I get a manager to stop caring about the end product long enough for me to actually teach them about their own machine?

AT&T: HBO-MAX is probably top 3 stream platforms along with netflix and disney plus. Despite this AT&T trades at a super low multiple. Is this the next glow-up a la Disney this past month? I think so. They've already got an extensive library and have consistently over 20 years delivered the best shows on TV, period. I understand that the core AT&T business may seem like a "liability" to the valuation but I still think that their valuation doesn't make sense. What am I missing?

I am concerned with fulfilling billable hours requirement. I’m required to hit 2100 hours yearly and I’m at ~1,500 hours and I think I’ll hit 150-180hours this month. What will happen if I don’t hit my targeted amount by the end of my year.

I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive. I feel like it’s very unstructured and one of the managers micromanages. It’s like every man for himself. Take home pay is $50k. I am working on my bachelors deg. Do I get paid enough?
