Moving to Fund Accounting is good if you aspire to be a Fund Accountant for the rest of your career.
Agreed, don't pigeon hole yourself OP.
Not sure what the current comp would be, but I do know that the hours for fund accountants are way better than a lot of the other roles in the industry. Work can be pretty interesting as well. Do you have an offer somewhere?
Yes I have an offer and am considering the position and comp based on my prior experience
Fund accounting = back office .. run!!
I was stuck in that career path for several years. It’s back office work if that’s what you’re interested in. Good WLB etc but you likely won’t make huge jumps in pay unless you go work at a hedge fund back office
Do not do fund accounting, it is probably the most boring job you can do
I just got out of fund accounting, it was the biggest mistake of my professional career. Here’s my career path: 2 years audit, 1 year private accounting, one year fund accounting at a bank. I just departed to become a FO credit analyst because I had strong connections. They were more interested in my previous jobs than fund accounting. It is the worst job I’ve had of the 3. Ambition is absolutely crushed there. Very boring cycles, you are the PM’s bitch and for the most part exit ops are limited to fund accounting. I would try to do an FP&A type role instead tbh.
Wirth 3-4 years of experience, I would think the salary could range from 65-80k. But I'd double check, don't lowball yourself.
