D1, federal is a thing. De jure, you're right. De facto, I'm right. Federal is a thing and you should get used to it.
I joined Deloitte in federal as an experienced hire consultant with 3 years experience and was offered 92k. This was 1.5 years ago
I won't argue with that, but OP was asking about salary...
In what universe does an experienced hired consultant in Federal get 85k!? I'm an SC2 and I only make 88k
Depends on their incoming salary. That's normal. You were either a campus hire, didn't make much coming in, or took a pay cut.
D4 are you in consulting? If so, I think they're screwing you.
Whoever said Federal isn’t a thing is wrong. It’s a thing. I came in with 2 year work experience at 72.5k but worked my signing bonus up to 20k. 2 years in I’m at 79.5.
Hey OP I just asked a couple friends their thoughts on this the other day. The ones that made less than $90k prior to coming to Deloitte had their salaries bumped to $85-$95+$5k-$10K signing bonus. Another was $105K (also federal) but that was what he made at his old job. No signing bonus. Friend of mine had a MS in Statistics and they couldn't match her current salary of $125K because she hadn't led teams yet and that is what the market rate for someone with her background commands at a minimum.
Deloitte federal isn't a thing. I wish people would stop using that term like we are some stepchild firm.
Second of all that's a little high. I'd say that's probably closer to the median. But def not out of range.
What is federal in that case? Would you consider it a service line? It is different in commercial, so I think it's worth calling out.
I started in Federal 5 years ago with 3 years of experience. They started me at 60k. I now am at 88k
It's a cost center. That's it.
@D2 federal does legitimately have lower salaries because we give the feds a discount on our bill rate so it does matter. When comp discussions start going here and you've got consultant level people making nearly 100k it's good to let people know that is absolutely not the case in Federal unless you're already a senior.
Federal consulting and commercial have different bill rates, bonuses, and raises. D1 must be in advisory.
Practitioners in federal do make less because of lower bill rates. Also we have better work life balance. But if you're recruiting someone please do not pitch Deloitte as solely a federal firm or one where you have to be pigeonholed in federal. It's bad for our brand. Federal consulting isn't exactly well-respected by the other 80% of this industry.
Yes diff rates (salary AIP and bill) and we have rules we have to abide by (entering time daily, specifying things on expense reports) but the differences end there. Otherwise it's mostly geographic circumstance and your network.
Yeah sorry op. That sounds about right. that'd be closer to the median. I'd say starting is around $85k. But if they are an outside hire the firm will do their best to at least match salary and will go outside of band to do so. I was hired outside of my band because I have a skill set they wanted.
I joined Deloitte federal as an experienced hire with 2 years work experience and negotiated my way to 89k and 5k signing bonus. A coworker in a similar situation was at 82k. This was 2 years ago but that range is about right
I started at $80k when I was at Deloitte
