Normally somewhere between 1800-2000 for bonus eligibility (although the average tends to be less due to new joiners, leave, etc.). Even if the firm has no official billable requirement, it’s probably best that you bill around that range at a minimum.
Most common requirement is 2,000 billable hours (~8.1 per work day after accounting for firm holidays, but assuming you never take a day of vacation). Some firms have no formal hour requirement, and you can still get bonus at 1800, for example, but anecdotally it seems common that no-requirement firms have so much work that most people struggle to ONLY bill 2,000 (though I think this is heavily dependent on your practice area).
Several firms have unspoken expectations, too. For instance, a 1,900 requirement but poor marks if you land below 2,100
At most top firms, you should bill 2400-2700+ if you want to get promoted.
I disagree
I’ve worked for 3 Biglaw firms and 2 Midlaw and they have all been 1800-1950. First Biglaw firm was originally 1600, which was a joke bc most everyone was billing well over 2000, but was eventually raised when the higher billers complained about getting the same comp as someone billing 1601.
I was used to seeing 2000 in recruiting info for Midlaw and smaller places/boutiques and always thought it would be crazy to make less money with a higher billable requirement.
Depends on your arrangement. PT is available in BL.
