McKinsey & Company Hey folks!
Was wondering what sort of life sciences projects does usually the Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Company take on?
Commercial, access and pricing, M&A, transformation, implementation? (all of them perhaps?)
Basically, what would someone with an LS background be mainly working on in these firms on a day-to-day basis?
Thanks!

Questions that you are actually curious about but aren't ones you can find thru google / website
You want to demonstrate
a. That you have done your research
b. That you are serious about working there.
So, this is a great time to ask about the things that you value from a workplace. Care about development? Ask how they currently have developed their people?
Career trajectory? Ask them what the company does to help folks align to what they like, and if they can give you an example.
Culture? You can ask how they provide support for their associates and consultants to put them in a position to succeed.
The list goes on, but as C1 mentioned above, you want more than the googable answer. You want something that only they can answer, hence the example, and shows you thought this through.

My thinking was that these people have had to make interesting decisions in the years leading up to this moment they’re interviewing you.
So figure out what those decisions were (returned to the firm after finishing top law school; spent 3 years in the Dubai office; became a partner in some industry). Don’t be like a creep/stalker, but you can get past any awkwardness, by opening with I saw on the firm website/LinkedIn that you…
Then I found it useful/constructive to ask why/how they made those decisions (building questions off the interviewers unique background) with a grounding focus to learn as much as possible about the culture of the firm they came up in.
Interviews are about finding a mutual match. I want you to ask questions that demonstrate you are seriously assessing firms against your goals and values.
I asked about the value the firm places on ethics and accountability, which is why I’m a B and not an M

I think this a really poor question because you cannot expect any more than one common answer (“a lot of value on ethics.”)
And it’s a bit offensive because it implies that you the interviewee, a critical thinker acknowledge the above fact and still expect the interviewer to reveal some lack of focus on ethical behavior and their association with it. This just doesn’t go down good, constructive paths and has a really negative frame. Unless you’re aiming to signal that you think about ethics, which is also awkward because that’s a base assumption in your candidacy.
Better to ask, what is being done to prevent future scandals, and why will those steps be effective in your opinion?
