No one is your friend. Everyone is really out for themselves and will throw anyone under the bus. It's a job and you are a professional. You're not there to make friends. And no, they are not family. Be respectful, cordial, and do a good job with your assignments. Never tell anyone your personal business and mainly keep to yourself to avoid office politics.
Perfect, spot on response. I could not have said it any better myself. Well done.
I've learned that it's never, ever, ever a good idea to say anything negative about anybody. It only makes you look bad, for starters. And it typically gets back to the person. I actually started therapy so I can start talking through my frustrations at work instead of venting to my colleagues, who often don't have my best interest at heart.
I switched firms this year and learned they are basically all the same. At the end of the day, we are just here to make someone else rich. And they seem to love to remind you of that.
I learned that the only value you have at your firm is the amount of money you make for them and nothing else. So their value to you should also reflect how much they pay you in salary, benefits and your ability to live a fulfilling life outside of work hours. Don't feel guilty about taking a higher paying job that more accurately reflects your market value. Your loyalty is for yourself and your family, not for an employer. But don't burn any bridges anywhere because you never know when a connection you made will lead you to a more lucrative opportunity.
