Hello Everyone! Does anyone have a connection at Netflix ! I am an author/marketing associate and truly my dream job is to work on the team that creates/produces Drive to Survive. I am a huge F1 fan! However, I am willing to start where I can and work my way there! I was laid off due to Covid and just trying to get back into the field and industry I love.
This is basically just the coronavirus work bowl

So far the articles on corona and pregnancy seem to focus on late-stage cases, and low total numbers, but seemingly even infected pregnant ladies end up being OK and do not transmit to baby. However, if I were you I wouldn’t risk it... the opportunity doesn’t outweigh potential for things to be/get very bad. Sounds like the agency is (rightly) allowing anyone to opt out, so you should be able to do it without “spilling the beans” of your early pregnancy.
No job is ever worth risking your health, (mental, emotional or physical) over. There will be more opportunities.
Agree with this ☝️
Wanted to provide an update. The shoot has been postponed and will be re evaluated on a weekly basis.
Good to hear!
I’m also pregnant. I think it depends on your comfort with risk. The very early research (on 9 women in third trimester) says it doesn’t seem any more harmful than to others, and good chance it’s not transmitted. So I don’t think there’s a need to be extra panicked at this stage. But this has only been around for a few months. Personally, I would avoid it because there is so much unknown and I don’t think it’s worth the risk. But that’s me.
No job/travel is worth the stress of even a minute chance that there is any possibility of causing issues to a developing baby. I would hold off on any trips like that especially because of the Coronavirus. There will be other opportunities to travel but you only get one chance to have a healthy baby and you wouldn’t want this trip to be the cause of your “what if I hadn’t gone would things be better” situation in case there was an issue. In my opinion, I would do everything on my end to help avoid potential dangers no matter how small or overly cautious. But everyone is different.
I don’t disagree with you and that’s why I said in my opinion-because everyone is different. If you are an overly cautious kinda person then that might be good advice (there is already so much that can go wrong) why add more issues. Just my opinion and I’ve had kids too-but every woman will do what is best for them. Follow your gut-if you question it-maybe there is a reason.
Thank you for your support and perspectives!!! Wanted to provide an update for anyone wondering or in the same situation. After talking to my obgyn, she said:
“We aren't restricting anyone's travel so you can go ahead with the trip to LA as planned. You should practice good hygiene with frequent hand-washing and use of hand sanitizer. Also trying to avoid touching your face, eyes, mouth, nose is recommended. Other than being cautious and taking the precautions recommended by the CDC, there isn't much else we can do.
The good news is that being pregnant does not make you more susceptible to contracting the coronavirus. If you do get it, there's a slightly increased risk of having a more complicated illness from it. However, the 9 pregnant women in China who had it did not develop severe illnesses, did not require hospitalization, and all delivered at or near term. So, all of that seems like good news, especially since you are otherwise young and healthy with a strong immune system. Additionally, the coronavirus is not like Zika -- it does not cross the placenta, so the major risk from it is that it can make you sick -- we do not have to worry about it transmitting to the pregnancy.”
This shoot needs to be canceled/postponed due to coronavirus. Please don’t go. Has nothing to do with pregnancy.
Think it’s an issue of your health in general. 7 weeks is very early and important you take of yourself first and foremost. Do what
Your comfortable with. If traveling internationally it’s an even more valid concern
You will be ok. Wash your hands, don't touch your face. Disinfect your surfaces.
A high fever in the first trimester could be pretty dangerous for your pregnancy. I personally would not go. I’m on my second trimester and I’m hesitant to even get on the subway.
If I were you, I would ask my doctor. Trust medical professionals over anyone on the internet, the level of hysteria over this thing is out of control.
Pro
Don’t go. I wouldn’t (mom of 2). I would be worried about fever in T1 and pneumonia while pregnant. Not that this applies to you at this time - but moms-to-be in T3 and moms of newborns - first infant was just diagnosed in London.
What’s the q. You are worried about corona x pregnancy? Or considering using corona as an excuse not to go?
Sorry was cut off by character count. I’m concerned I’m more susceptible to the coronavirus while pregnant and am considering not going. But I don’t know if I’m being overly cautious. I want to go on production to see this campaign through but am worried.
Many unnecessary facts here: 6 hour plane ride and 7 weeks pregnant have nothing to do with each other or Coronavirus. Is it overseas? To a hot spot domestically? If yes, cancel because you don’t want to get stuck there, get sick or carry the virus home to your family or vulnerable members of your community. If no, go because there’s no more chance you’ll get sick 6 hours from home than at home.
Wash your hands hourly, avoid large events.
If your doctor told you to avoid crowded spaces like airports then I would heed that warning. Worst case scenario highly outweighs best case scenario (potential birth defects from fever or medicine >>> something to put on your resume)
Pro
If you want to go, GO! If you don’t then don’t. But I’d probably tell everyone earlier about the pregnancy. You’re gonna need sleep.
Sadly it’s a reality for many. I almost told my boss and my friends warned me against it until absolutely necessary, heard a lot of horror stories. That book is brilliant btw. Outlines all the research out there to make an informed decision
I’m not going to give a long drawn out response just my personal decision... if I were in your shoes I would choose to go (FYI I am a mother too)
Talk to your OB about it. Typically the watch out while pregnant is not about being susceptible to sickness, it’s about whether or not the meds to heal a sickness would harm the baby. Consider your flight time, if you’re in/out of country and what your pathway back home to safety would be should you need it. Toronto for a 2-day shoot is different than South Africa for a 2 weeks. If you go, maybe tell a teammate that’s going too. I tried to hide it on location and ended up breaking down and telling because everyone wanted to smoke and eat sushi.
Would definitely ask my doctor. And if you’re not comfortable, I’d raise it at work. I let folks know early at work when I had some issues arise
Pregnant or not. No. Not worth the risk.
