How many billable hours per week is considered at capacity? I’m getting pushback on boundaries I’m setting about additional matters and marketing work from my firm when I’ve been billing 60-75 hours per week for the last 6 weeks, and I’m still behind on my work. I am starting a new role with a new company and will have 6 direct reports. Although I have managed teams before in a consulting project setting, this will be the first time in industry. Any recommendations on how to sharpen my management skills (books, blogs, etc). Particularly looking at how to delegate effectively and practical examples on how to run day to day.

SM2 here with reasonable line of sight to MD in 2-3 years. Strong MD support, good brand, etc. Was recently offered a Director level position for corporate strategy within my industry.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

I need to take a leave of absence for mental health purposes. How do I bring this up with my boss? Or do I talk to HR directly? I took some time off this month due to burnout but I did not tell them that was the reason. I thought I'd be okay when I got back, but I'm not. I don't know if they will give me the leave of absence.
