The hourly work schedule for the local driver has always been terrible. Even if you're not second or third shift, companies demand both your ability AND your availability. I'm a Dad with two teenager's at home and my whole life has been a balance of just trying to find more time to be a Dad. I honestly don't know how the over the road driving dads do it with family at home. My advice is if you have a good local job that pays the bills, count your blessings even if they demand extra hours from you.
I had a great paying local job but the on call is what drove me crazy. It gave me anxiety. I’m in Class A school now hoping to get something local or regional. I have endorsements so hopefully that helps me find something.
