What's better as a corporate M&A attorney - being in practice or in-house?

Better in terms of what? If WLB, in-house. If variety/sophistication of work, law firm.

like

Better in terms of work quality, progression, WLB... All of it. Just seeing the market sentiment

like

Progression in house can often be a bit of a black box. Coming from the lock step world of big law, it’s definitely challenging. Work quality and WLB depends a lot on the job itself.

like

I think that's the thing... when all I knew was big law and what was perceived as "progression" to aspire to be a partner. I found that I got more praise moving in-house than moving law firms/promotion in law-firm. Hence my question - So I want to know what's better in terms of work quality and market perception?

Curious as to how many deals at once is typical for a first year associate to take on (M&A, mostly private equity clients). Deal size is lower middle market and I’ve worked on deals ranging from $1-$110M. 2 deals at once is plenty for me, but it seems like my peers are able to take on more than that at once and still do fine. Maybe I’m just a slow learner/out of my league at the big law firm I’m at.

Cross posted: Has anyone ever heard of this type of real estate private equity fund structure:

-One LLC, so only one PPM
-Multiple investors that can be onboarded anytime
-Multiple investments that investors can determine whether or not they want to invest in
-One K-1 per investor based on their investments and income
-Ability for the Sponsor/Fund to invest directly, indirectly and in equity, debt, Pref, etc.
To me this seems extremely cumbersome and would require multiple classes of (cont’d)

Rising 2nd year here: been rethinking my choice as an M&A attorney. I've had a rough go of it over the first year-and-a-half of practice and am thinking about moving to a different practice area. I'd like to stay on the transactional side, but am not quite sure what areas I can leverage my corporate and M&A skills in. I was thinking T&E (i.e. business succession planning, etc.)

Would greatly appreciate input from others.
