I really like my customers! I have some really awesome regulars who come visit me at least once a week, and they totally brighten my entire day. Plus, I love the tips and feel like, if I work harder, I can make more money. I never felt that way working in retail, where no matter how hard you work, you always make the same amount. I love the unpredictability and the excitement of not knowing what's going to happen that day.
It is hard to deny that there is a lot to complain about, but I still love my job most days. I think my favourite thing, as cheesy as it sounds, is the customers. I have so many amazing interactions each day with kind, interesting people that it usually balances out the not-so-nice stuff (except the pay, nothing can make up for the bad pay 😂)
I work with some really cool people! There are some.. Characters.. But for the most part I have met a lot of great friends. Even if you can’t say the same right now, always hope for it. A lot of down to Earth people and that is something I didn’t find a lot until I worked in kitchens!
Food service is one of the few jobs where you can actually feel your work making a difference in real time. The best part it's your instant impact. Like, you can turn someone’s rough day around just by getting their order right or tossing in a smile. I love asking someone about their day and seeing their face change into a smile. Have you try to do that? What is the best part of your day?
The people. You'll never meet a more diverse group of people than you will working in the restaurant industry. I've become friends with a ton of coworkers over the years and never would have met them if it wasn't for work. It's not always fun, but working with people you genuinely enjoy being around makes up for a lot.
