Planning to switch role to Data Analyst / BI Analyst.

I want to create a data visualization portfolio, but I’m not sure where to begin. I work in urban planning and wanna do more urban analytics kind of stuff. Does anyone have any pointers for me as to where to begin and what all different types of visualizations I should be aiming to include? I’ve used R and Excel for this so far. Joined Blind over a month ago, and what an eye opener it has been. Tech salaries are insane. Even with the recent tech pull back and layoffs, some of the comps are on a whole another level. Friends in tech say, most layoffs have involved non-engineers (sales,HR, Ops,mrktng etc). Dudes in their late 20s pulling in 350k+. Unreal.

And then I look at my TC/bonus and a sense of disappointment washes over me. Short of becoming a partner, I don't think I can pull these numbers that tech bros post up.
