What's the biggest 'temporary fix' you've done that somehow became permanent? For me its using zip-ties, I put them up and then end up never taking them down.

I once used duct tape to “temporarily” secure a loose wire harness—somehow, years later, it was still holding strong lol. Sometimes the quick fix also becomes the permanent fix.. and I think that's beautiful haha

Man zip ties are the perfect example of this. Those things are FOREVER

I was able to rectify leaking lub.oil on generator sets oil filter and got stopped leaking while usage not affected.

At my house, zip ties hold up so much! lol. Outdoor silicone seems to always come in handy as well around my house.

Super. Glue

There is almost nowhere to find reliable bonus information on Canadian firms. I’ve heard of year end bonuses ranging from 10-50% this year (not including Covid bonuses). Let’s start a thread posting year of call, rough billable hours worked and bonus as a percent of salary.

5 year call. 1850 hours. 10%.

How does a sole engineer at a company go about getting management to actually care how production machines run? I’m the only mechanical engineer at my company dealing with a half dozen cranky production managers who think that I can “work my magic” on a machine. It’s not magic, just ignorance about the machine actually works. How to I get a manager to stop caring about the end product long enough for me to actually teach them about their own machine?
