There is no one culture at Microsoft. It’s hard to comprehend the size of a company of over 200K people (though no one knows how many people have been fired in this current “low performer” zero severance firing spree - by the way, your health care coverage also ends on the day you’re fired - not even the end of the month - and plenty of good people have had at least one less than 100% rewards reviews over the last 4 reviews - which seems to be the firing criteria). It also depends on which office, if you go into an office. I’m remote and do not experience any culture, just bureaucracy. But I imagine that other area of the company besides mine, maybe smaller business units, might have some kind of decent culture. Still, the layoffs (and now performance based firings) are so frequent that there is also a persistent fear. There are, in my opinion, many mediocre employees, and middle management is bloated and follows Peter’s Principle. There are many pure people managers who lost touch with the subject matter a decade ago and somehow have lingered in these relatively safe posts for a long time. The comp is lower than similar companies, and the company is super tight on expenses - very cheap. Meanwhile, benefits are not as good as you’d expect.
Sounds similar to my company right now. Thanks for the input
