The hardest part for me was when we rushed to hire just to fill the gap, and ended up with someone who didn’t align with our team culture. It took month and more money to find someone else that would makes sense.
Not having the process better set up before we decided to start hiring. I’m all for learning as you go, learn from mistakes, but once you start bringing in outside people, you need to make sure things are set up and pay the money for somebody who will teach you or who knows what they are doing.
I guess for me it's the wanting too much control part. I have a perfectly capable manager that I hand selected and could have taken over the hiring of our next employee, but I just felt like I needed to be there for the selection process, too. But I honestly already have so much on my plate that it not only wasn't necessary for me to be there, but it took away from other tasks that needed my attention.
