What's up with Norton Rose Fulbright? I notice that some folks there who are relatively junior (class of 2020 and 2021) already have the title "Counsel". Is the partnership track there different? I've generally heard that Counsel title is for people who are basically too senior to be associates but are not Partners, or are retired Partners.

I have a clerkship with a bankruptcy judge in a major jurisdiction beginning in September. If I stopped working in April, is that too early or can I stop whenever? Can you name a firm (preferably NY office) that lets its associates work from a different country with no issues? The mid-size firm I’m currently at has been very flexible during covid but I’m looking to change firm (biglaw). Since my family is abroad I find it extremely valuable to be able to do this (I did this even before covid for a couple of weeks, twice a year). I’ve heard firms like Latham and Paul Weiss don’t allow it for tax reasons.

Senior attorneys at v100, how common is it for attorneys who start at small firms to lateral to biglaw? Have you worked with any? Conventional wisdom is always that if you don’t start there it’s hard to “trade up”. My coworker and I just did it to two different great v30 firms, and I’m wondering if it’s really that uncommon? Just out of curiosity. We’re not special counsel with special niche skills or anything, just associates. Pitfalls to beware? Positives?

Okay to renege on a lateral offer that I already accepted (prior to Covid-19 outbreak)? Anxiety is high moving in a time like this and now would rather stay put.

Conventional wisdom on current firm counter-offering when mentioning you have a few offers? I have an offer at a large firm in Miami. Current large firm has no office there but mentioned they can likely let me be there in a remote basis. BCG and a few other law blog sites have advised against accepting current firm counter-offers, e.g., likely to leave, not loyal, off partner track, etc., but would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Recent lateral (6ish months). On pace for 2000.
