Ask A Recruiter

When I apply for new positions at larger Corp companies, the only feedback I get back is my resume is too creative. But I’m applying for creative roles. How do I make me resume less creative ?

Is it so creative that someone can’t really follow what the project was, or what your role was? Sometimes stripping it down to be a bit more simple is better, show some personality but also don’t overcompensate so much that the work doesn’t have a chance to shine.

When you’re dealing with corporate, the simpler the resume, the better.

If a company is using an applicant tracking system then it may not be able to read your resume (when you’re applying) which may make it challenging for recruiters and hiring managers to find it in the system. Keeping it simple makes it easy for both people and computers to read. Show your skills in your portfolio - most times creative recruiters barely skim the resume and aim focus on the portfolio.
