Don't do anything unless and until you've secured your new position. Submit your resignation after you have a firm offer and have completed any necessary background checks with your new employer.
Notice period should be in your contract or LP agreement. I would go in knowing what they can try to enforce as a notice period and see how they have handled other "bad" leavers before.
Why would they care about an “associate partner”? At the end of the day unless you are a rainmaking senior partner or at least a full partner with equity, you are not someone they would think about for more than 30 seconds.
I left as an AP. Waited until everything was final with my offer. Offered up to 4 weeks to transition. Used the time before giving notice to get everything ready for transition. Most people were happy for me... a few were pissed. 🙂
Same boat. Will give 2 week notice after absolutely everything is secured at new firm.
