Coach
Mason frank salary guide maybe…
I looked into it but there's only salaries for marketing cloud and a very generic role "funcional consultant".
The Mason frank salary guide is probably your best bet, but honestly the ranges for positions are so vast that they're not psychically useful. For instance, some CPQ architect are $90 an hour, others are $250 an hour.
I agree the range might be big but any data point is better than none...
Truth be told - you cannot have the depth and in both.
You can be good at one and then know the other somewhat.
So I would still recommend to pick one and gain experience
let me add a more helpful comment - I don't think you can go wrong with CPQ or B2B. Both are going to get you into a Salesforce niche that pays well, but you also need to focus on learning the business side of things. Being an intelligent sales operations specialist will take you far (call it revops or whatever you want). Both CPQ and B2B will help you with that, and the skills overlap somewhat (from the business side, not much technical right now).
Ditto that. Just like they moved CloudCraze to Commerce on Core - it wont be wrong to expect CPQ moving to the core platform
No way people are actually recommending the MF salary guide. If you're going to use that, that 25% off the top.
I'm in CPQ and recently landed a job at ~ $230k TC but none of the Mason Frank team I talked to were worth half the time I gave them. The salary results have always been wildly inflated. Maybe it's more accurate now for a few niches, but I've largely ignored it for years.
Couldn’t go wrong with either. I personally would not want to specialize too granularly in CPQ forever. HOWEVER, as many of us here know, CPQ can be an absolute pain in the butt. Teams struggle with it. I’ve made way more money in CPQ configuration contracting when I did freelance work than any other area. My current company is paying a gross amount of money right now to have a team work on our CPQ because myself and other admin do not have the time or patience for it. (Startup life.) Solid experience in CPQ will be worth your while.
One of my large contracts I was able to lock in was from an old colleague who needed help with their implementation. But I’ve found other small contracts on UpWork! Also, the roles I have seen for full time CPQ config (if that’s what you want to do) were working for consulting agencies. If you look up consulting firms that do SFDC implementation you’ll find a bunch that hire consultants and developers for just CPQ.
You may not find what you're looking for in a salary guide. Where you really start to see differences in pay dependant on platform would be hourly rates as a contractor.
Interesting… I too do both… much more experience in B2B commerce than in CPQ. Have decided to choose 1 of these but not for pay related reason
Are you looking for what Salesforce CSG offers or other consulting companies? And are you on the Architecture side or functional? Are you looking for a Director level role or Senior Manager?
SSA1 this was very helpful, thanks for sharing!
