Hi everyone. I'm pretty early in my career (just over 1 YOE) & not really enjoying my current role as a Consultant/Developer because of the type of projects I get combined with some mobility issues. However, I'm really interested in technical program management or project management and I'm looking for any advice on how to get there bc I've been applying, but can't even seem to get a call back.

If I had stayed in the role I was in originally and grown with it, I’d be making maybe $120k, best case. I also wouldn’t have broken 6-figures in under 4 years by waiting.

The biggest lie that companies tell you is you can grow in a firm, both professionally and financially. The only ones that grow are already the people a) getting the promotions, or b) on the sales side.

If neither applies to you, the fastest way to achieve salary growth is to leave.

I'm having more than 12 yrs of experience and current ctc is 11.20 excluding night shift and variables. I've given interview in bny got shortlisted and submitted the documents. Initially interview was for I grade in fund accounting. After documentation hr said they r hiring me for h grade I get ready for that too with offer of 12 lakh. Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

Are there any good movies or novels that show skill development - like follow through? Self-management? Money management? I read a lot of self help books so I know a lot of the theory, and books peppered with examples help, but I feel like most 1 paragraph examples don’t five justice to how hard it may be to change a behavior.

A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.

Do you think firms should pay the same salary to everyone at the same level, or allow for variation within a band based on experience?

What essential courses or books do you recommend for coming up to speed on Product Management?

Would you take an offer at EY or Apple? Apple recruiter mentioned that there will be early morning meetings (6 or 7am), EY recruiter said WLB in EY is best for big 4.

A friend of mine from a top tier consulting firm was counseled out. Do you consider it ethical that his career counselor is intentially spreading the information to his colleagues and to other consultants from other companies in the project? What can he do about it? Specially that he considers the potential layoff is purely based on the current situation (chargeability was low) and not on his performance (they said that his contribution to BD during his bench time was low)?
