Oh one other thing. Reach out to other freelancers. They often get work that they're either too busy to take on, don't want to do, or is not in their wheelhouse. People often think freelancing is dog eat dog but it's actually the opposite. You'll be amazed at how many freelancers want to help you succeed. I'm one of them :)
I'm just starting after 20+ years of FT employment. My biggest piece of advice is network like crazy. Get in LinkedIn, connect with people, write articles, post daily. Also reach out to everyone you know, including family and friends. They may know someone who needs your help. Contact recruiters at agencies and let I them know you're available. Get your portfolio updated pronto, and your resume. Go to local networking events. Get yourself out there as much as you can. Oh, and never come across as desperate. Ooze confidence, not arrogance, and let employers know why you are the answer to their marketing problems. I hope this helps. Stay the course, it takes time to build something.
Save your money eat less and learn how to network. Also have believed and faith in your skills before your network.
