Great social is an oxymoron. The best practices required to do it properly preclude you from generating emotion, building suspense, and leaning into surprise and delight.
Social is a digital form of penny saver advertising and direct mail. Its power comes from its ability to surmise that you might not mind seeing an ad because you’ve already signaled interest in the product, brand, or category.

The best social comes from in-house, where legal is more lenient and you can be more nimble. Agencies should not be doing social.

Guys, I know social is like eyeball junk mail. But I am seeing a lot of job posts, and I gotta pay my rent. I would like to look at work that is inspiring so if by the off chance I get a gig, I have a little reference for what's good.
@ACD1 Oh, forgot to answer. I am a woman, and I don't believe in using gender as a way to insinuate someone is stupid just because they use different language to describe deliverables I have likely heard of or even made. This is an anonymous app so ofc there are no consequences for treating someone like sh*t, but I don't naturally lean that way. If that's what you need to feel big, nobody is stopping you. But I would urge you to wipe that vibe from your demeanor IRL bc it only reveals that you have been stepped on by a guy, and now you are using that experience as an excuse to condescend. I started this thread with a genuine curiosity/interest to clarify, and you made it ugly. 👠👠

Social gets more eyeballs and more flexible than a TV Spot that no one watches, so I’m not attacking you.
But… Cerave is my favorite in a long time. Took a social insight and ran with it, great storytelling, perhaps the only “on brief” use of a celebrity in what feels like years, good production, huge pay off in one of the only worthwhile broadcast media buys.

Yes. Ogilvy did that work. But you really want to find an in-house role for social. Agencies are bloated and bloated means slow. Slow means you missed the moment.
Stay away from places that think social work means memes and haphazardly jumping on today’s viral trend. Social needs coherent strategy.
One show, webby’s, d&ad all have social categories. Maybe start there?
Must’ve been a slow news day.
Social media is mostly PR not advertising, so it’s tough to answer because I don’t even know what you mean by a social “campaign.” Unless you are talking about ads that happen to run on a social media platform as sponsored videos/posts.
