Got laid off in tech corp dev making 250-300 all in. Have an offer to join a fairly new family office investment team in PE buyouts but will be a fairly significant cash pay cut vs what I was making in tech corp dev. I’ve always been interested in doing investing. All things being equal, is there better upside to take the fam office to do PE (at a pay cut for now), or go do another corp dev job? 6-7 YOE

Anyone who is ex-consulting and moved to industry miss the events? I don't miss the lack of WLB, but I miss getting tickets to conferences, team events and DU.
Pandemic has been good and bad, since I guess no one is going anywhere, but also because industry office is closed so no in-house events either. Miss getting varied experiences across different clients and industries that consulting offered.

Started welding around 9 years ago. Continued at my local community college for my associates degree, jumped into being a welding tech. Then continued for my bachelors degree. Now I’m a welding engineer and teach part time at the community college I initially went to. AWS Certified Welder and CWI. Making good money in my early 30s. My previous manager would track us by hours daily, made a fuss everytime anything stretched and guilt us for that and the unplanned leave too unless it was COVID. Hinted him a lot of time, this is problematic but apparently he considered it "standard practice for agile".

Now 8/10 teammates have switched within < 1 year of project start (6-7 months with him) which tbh had good work in our opinion and even team was fun to work with even though none of us ever met in person.
