While this bowl grows, I thought I’d have a question to kick things off:

Why did you leave consulting? What do you do now? How did you make the switch (upskilling, referrals, etc)? Pros/Cons?

I just left my consulting job after 11 years at Accenture. I had been thinking about it for a couple of years. Bottom line was, I wanted to be on the other side and was tired of being the vendor in the “vendor/client” relationship. I’m now in a position where I’m a Sr. IT Program Manager, I work 10 minutes from my home and get paid significantly more than I did as a Manager at Accenture. I say- “the grass is sometimes greener.”

Please teach me your ways

I was laid off from Accenture this year and had been thinking of leaving consulting for awhile and thought thru possible careers. The layoff gave me the push I needed and I’m happy in industry in a product management role. It was a hard time after being let go and told it was performance based but looking back I feel like it was meant to be. I’m so much happier.

Hi there! How did you land the job? Did you have to lie about the lay off? How did you do it? Thanks

Almost left a year back, but offer didn’t go through and so still here.

Same

Haven’t left yet but almost did 2 months ago. I wanted to leave because I was tired of traveling, the push to always over perform, and just overall competitive nature of consulting.

The opportunity to switch came through a 3rd party recruiting agency that looked to place Workday Consultants in full time customer roles.

3 things that have kept me where I am is the money, the workday certifications (probably the most valuable thing), and promise of lesser travel

During h1b extension , will I get another 4.5 years of extension? How does extension work when u switch visas?

This annual appraisal I have got a good % of appraisal increment on my salary but I was not promoted to a senior developer (although I have been mentoring a junior dev in my team and been part of building the project by implementing new technologies and tweaks) and my total YoE is 3.5+ years. What could be the reasons? What should I do now?

Thanks in advance!!
