While working at public accounting I always expensed my bar license fees but now I work in house and the company doesn’t have a similar policy. I was asking around and apparently the accountants were not maintaining their CPAs because they didn’t have to sign the tax return. Do most lawyers who work in house in a tax capacity continue to pay their bar fees?

Yes, I charge in my bar dues. Frankly, that’s a red flag if a company doesn’t pay for you to maintain your certifications. Every in house tax department I’ve worked with reimbursed both the CPA/Bar and also TEI.

As an update looks like my company covers the license fees.

Does the company not reimburse license/certification fees or do people just not submit their license fees? I’d be surprised if the company policy as written wasn’t covering those fees

Closing on my first home. Advice for anyone with student loans in administrative forbearance per the Cares act: once your offer is accepted have you student loan servicer put your account back in repayment status.

Accounts in forbearance, even administrative forbearance, are calculated at a higher monthly payment by the underwriter.

My fictitious debt to income ratio was too high for them to approve me, and it took seven days for my loan to be officially back in repayment. So just a heads up.

How do I figure out spending with my SO? Initially I was paying for 90% of stuff (no actual bills, just going out). I talked to her and said we need to be more even. She was never proactive. She kind of got offended but we ended on a good note to split things. It went well for a couple weeks but now it's back to normal. She never takes out her card and only venmos me if I send her the request. She lets Venmos sit for weeks before paying them. I still let a lot of things slide.

I love international tax (in core) and don’t mind compliance at all but it’s been nearly 100% of what I do. Any ways of balancing out with more structuring/planning?

Some background: there’s only 3 of us IT locally and with the departure of our SM, the little structuring/planning work I do see will probably dry up when they leave. Do I network with other bigger offices to pick up that kind of work?

Currently accepted an internship at a firm for the winter and also just accepted a separate internship over the summer with a B4 firm. Should I inform the other firm that I already accepted a later internship with a B4 firm or keep it to myself until the internship is over? They are totally different positions and I wanted to have some experience with both but worry they will take it wrong.
