It’s a natural concern to have given recent events but realistically your chances of injury flying are astronomically small. I also think that Southwest is a responsible company and their aircraft will probably be safer than ever now.
I did hear about the engine system design that is built to specifically avoiding hitting a list preferred customers when they blow up.
In all seriousness, did anyone find out which row she was sitting in?
Southwest is on here now?!
Swa, I'm loyal to Southwest but terrified to fly with you guys again. I think 50,000 points would put me at ease 😉
South West is an airline? I just thought it was a type food and Kanye West's next child...
I’m an ex consultant
Hi, I’m a Senior Leader at SWA. I’d be happy to answer questions. I can personally say for myself and my family that I’m not afraid to fly us again.
As much as I am not a fan of southwest, it was the airplane and the NTSB is investigating. The crew did an amazing job at landing the plane as it could have been much worse. The chances of happening again are very small
PwC1 - Chances are *aeronautically small. Astronomically small refers to your chance of that happening on your way to space.
If it's your time to go, it's your time to go. Stop stressing about it.
ZS, do you know you’re a douche bag or do you have no idea.
Low probability of rare events happening in the same space unless it is systematic. Don't take the window seat.
I dont really like "safer than driving" argument; you have some control over the probability car accident (defensive driving, no texting, driving schools, etc) so if you are a responsible and trained driver, you will less likely to have a fatal accident. However, this engine explosion, that we have no control at all, might represent systematic issue in maintenance and preflight checkup process of SWA. How the hell an engine that was checked up a few hours ago explode in the air in 2018? Yes, if there was any externality, I would be more relieved but if it was due to internal issue that was not found their regular and preflight checkup, I wouldnt be happy about that. I think I will just keep flying united for my DrDao jackpot odds.
Yay, I’m not the only Southwest Coheart here!
SM1 - Please tell me that you are joking?!?!?
Very low probability event. Not systemic issue or pattern here. If you are not flying SWA, you might as well stop driving on the road.
I like the safer than driving argument because it’s factual. Your control over your own driving does not take into consideration all of the other crazy drivers out there.

I’m A List Preferred and will not be nervous on my next flight. Safer than driving
