I have a "Do Not Recruit" list. If the internal recruiting folks at a firm are not responsive or excessively waste my time, I put them on the list and I won't recruit for them anymore. The firm could be stellar but if they waste my time, I'm done. Time is the only currency a contingency fee recruiter has so one must draw the line. It is amazing how many firms hire such unprofessional staff for something as important as lateral recruiting.
I bet our list is similar!!! If the partners only knew where these ghosted candidates end up - at all the peer firms. And, if we aren’t recruiting for you, guess where we are pulling from. But, I’ll say this, the firms and internal legal recruiters that are good / are really good!!
Unfortunately it’s a firms market - no doubt HRs will respond in an instant if theirs a lateral boom in a few years.

I think we’re all experiencing the same thing. It’s a buyer’s market and firms know it. Pair that with the fact that many internal recruiting teams are understaffed and you get a lot of ghosting. I would hope that many of these firms realize they may be shooting themselves in the foot once the market turns towards employee power… but immediate priorities are a thing I’m sure. I know a lot of great candidates who have a real bad taste in their mouths now from firms ghosting them with no explanation or insight.

Exactly! I’m turned off from so many of these law firms too. You post an opening for a top IP litigator, I find one and send the materials to you and get ghosted. Next time there’s an opening at your firm, I won’t bother to send anyone. But I guess they don’t give a f*.

I hear you. It's so annoying. Just tell me no. I have a candidate offer from a big firm and they moved very quickly. But otherwise crickets.

They usually only respond when they are interested

I get that. But if they posted an opening and you send them a candidate that perfectly matches their needs, it’s very unclear why they show no interest.
