Who cares? In the end most of B4 are dying to get to MBB. B4 is kinda the group of dorks waiting outside a fancy club …trying hard to get in. And basically they are the “gang” from it’s sunny in Philadelphia. Kpmg gets to play Dee sometimes.
No we’re not. I turned down MBB for big4 out of college buddy.
Spent 8 years at KPMG and moved to Deloitte about 3 years ago. Main reason was because consulting leadership as a whole was clueless about technology advisory (there were some small exceptions here and there). Anyhow back then there was a mass exodus from KPMG to Deloitte. It was almost as if Deloitte acquired all key talent from KPMG at all levels. Partners included.
Basically KPMG in my view is an accounting firm that stumbled onto consulting, where as Deloitte is a consulting firm that happens to do some accounting.
Ironic to say KPMG is an accounting firm when they can’t even do audit without getting fined
Envy. They couldn’t get in 😭
💀🤣
The big 4 are all carbon copies, KPMG just has the least revenue of the four. Anyone who thinks the other three are actually viewed differently lives in fantasy land

Idk tbh but it’s always been weird. Like even at a good company, you are just an employee so why take pride in something that isn’t really yours and could very well fire you when money gets tight Some people anchor so much of their identity on their job and the company they work at, seems quite cringe lol
Hallelujah
Consulting overall is a toxic industry and KPMG guys are usually pretty friendly (at least who I've met). For example I saw how they explained smth very simple to newcomers, PwC guys usually make you feel bad for not understanding stuff, Deloitte guys are ok but have a condescending tone, EY are passive aggressive. When you work with "wolves" they perceive friendliness as a weakness, and laugh at you.
Shortly: nothing wrong with KPMG, just people are people

People are always mean to the popular girl. Its ok
Not in this case
😂 kpmg has the most incompetent professionals i have ever met compare to other firms. It doesn’t mean other firms don’t have them but i just know kpmg has the most haha
Looks like you know the university haha but I haven’t seen nor heard anyone get into management consulting from that university just yet either. I am actually microsoft erp functional consultant after doing engineering so go figure how i got into this line of work

because KPMG just doesn’t have good strategy talent nor is able to attract it. They are the only of the B4 that don’t have a reasonably well-known and distinct strategy practice (e.g., EYP, S&, Monitor)
Lol. Anyone that thinks that someone will hire a big4 for their strategy capabilities is delusional. Strategy is a very small chunk of revenue at Big4 and the acquisitions try to reinvent themselves as leaders of other practices when they realize no one wants to buy strategy work from them.
Also... Id argue... the good strategy talent are usually busy doing their own thing rather than consulting.
Honestly PwC should be just behind them, our capabilities are so far behind EY, Deloitte, and Big 3 combined with a somehow worse culture and the fact that most practices are struggling to sell work we may be the new laughing stock soon
I’m glad you’ve experienced that, but for me it has been the polar opposite. My group actively pushes toxicity and is far more political than I thought possible. I originally joined the firm because of lot of my mentors from my consulting org in college (mostly women and women of color had also spoken highly and enjoyed the firm so far) I will say however my experience along with many of my peers has been horrific.
Nearly everyone in our group was fearing for their job security, even if they had great util and reviews. I hear PwC preach constantly about how they didn’t layoff during covid, and how they haven’t done layoffs despite other firms doing so, only to witness a huge wave of layoffs this summer (my group, other groups under ops, and my peers groups as well) disguised as “performance based” terminations when that was not the case for about 75% of those (sure there were some warranted ones but i saw far too many unwarranted). I then heard from all my friends who got laid off that PwC then tried to dispute all, yes all, of their unemployment claims, thankfully none of them had theirs denied which was nice to hear. But after witnessing this summer, mixed with the near polar opposite culture they preach about in my group, I’m in the same boat as you are with K where I actively steer people away from PwC, i do however emphasize that each group varies.
I’m glad to hear your experience has been better, however I have seen and heard a lot of poor experiences lately in the firm, but again this is all very practice dependent I feel. Moral of the story seems like no matter the experiences we all have at these firms at the end of the day a vast majority of us are just a number to them
KPMG is just the littlest of the giants (Big 4). In the end they are bigger than all non-Big 4s. Revenue is up from last year and the firm is making heavy investments into AI. Is it perfect, no. But folks like to bandwagon on KPMG cause there is a history of it. But in the end it’s basically saying my company made more billions than your billions. KPMG has been around for 125 years… probably will be around another 125 years.
superiority complex as well, seems like 80% of big 4 consultants (despite the fact that half of those got rejected from MBB) think they are gods gift to this earth and that they are better than most other working people, but when there are 4 nearly identical firms it’s easy to go hey well KPMG sucks i’m at a good one
KPMG 5
Pro
Honestly our most consistent strategy is poor hiring decisions and inconsistent promotions,
Personally love the jokes we get
Smallest of the big 4. Kind of like picking on your little brother
KPMG riffed me after promising me blah blah blah! The mother fuckers actually recruited me from another company and ruined my year
Just one capital letter too much.
… many*
Great question! I’ve assumed it comes down to 3 reasons: 1) smallest of the B4 2) a supposed history of buying work - which may not help w/ 1 3) Phil
Re 2, there’s nothing supposed there. You also need to add: a much higher proportion of staff aug/ body shop work.
KPMG sucks and full of moron managing directors and partners
Agreed
Easiest to dunk on a child’s basketball hoop
Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler. It’s all in the name.
Rolls right off the tongue. Great branding.
My friend who was a manager at KPMG told me a story about how he accidentally pissed all over his white shirt, trying to take a picture of a dump, while having a hard on, all on his first day of work, and had to sneak out of the office to change.
Really fun guy ngl

The firm has been in a complete free fall ever since Phil Mickelson's contract was terminated.
What happened with this guy?
