Why do I hear so much about consulting folks never using all their PTO (or even half of it sometimes). Do you guys not like to travel? Do you value work that much?

No but the job tends to make it difficult to use PTO.

I have found it easiest to schedule 2-3 week vacations that end ~1-2 weeks after a case. If you are someone who likes planning a year out, probably doesn’t work quite as well, but 3 months out usually is enough time to plan

like

Agree with BCG - I usually take a decent bit at a time 3ish weeks. generally book 2/3 months out when I know a firm roll off date and have never had any troubles.

like

We can roll our vacation up to 8 weeks and we get paid out on it if we leave the company. I see it as an investment, the 3 weeks I didn't take off my first year will get paid out at the salary I'm earning whenever I leave.

like

Same here, I make my plans, tell my team, and take my time. I don't use up all of my PTO but get pretty close. Like any job in the US, you just need to take charge of talking the time off because nobody else is going to remind you to do it.

like

The shorter your engagements the harder it is to plan to use your PTO for a decent trip/Vaca. Like A1, sometimes I get a firm roll off date and the PTO gets scheduled immediately after. If you've got an SO or kids though, it gets harder again because now you're trying to sync with schedules, school years, and/or your SO's bank of days.

We operate more on the ‘unlimited’ as long as you get your shit done. We have 28? days to start where most people in industry start at 10 or less. Plus working remotely saves days.

like

Cool - all helpful. Sometimes I get concerned A) about the well being of my peers and B) that I'm doing something wrong because I'm very adamant about finding time to travel.

like

We get a lot of PTO. If you never need to use sick days, then it’s really going to be tough to use all your PTO. And after you’ve been at the firm awhile and have built up a boatload of PTO, you pretty much forget about what you have and just use it as you need to.

Hi fishes,
Need your thoughts.
I am done with my client interview and it went well but they are asking me to come to gugaon location.
I am from Bangalore location.
I directly said to client that I can't since I have my family here.
When I inform this to my manager he is saying how come u say like this to client.according to kpmg policy u need to travel to anywhere to work.
This is not good right. What should be my reply to the client in such a case and how to handle manager on this?

I also want to help my dad get into a permanent GOV role before he needs to retire, he’s been rejected by gov roles and can only work travel roles with fema, I don’t want him traveling as he’s getting too old and I just lost my mom a year ago. Any help would be appreciated!

Is it wrong that I'm sort of pissed off by this? Should I say something?

Hello Folks,
Can you pls advise on which company to go for.
R-Systems : They are providing WFH + clarity on the project and team for which I’ll be working upon.
CTS : No clarity as of now, only thing I am aware is that I’m a part of full stack community.
HCL : Some clarity on the project but less package than other two.
R-Systems and CTS are giving same CTC.
YOE ~8
Skill set : . Net full stack + Angular + Azure
