I could not agree more!
Employers will get away with what they can. Know your worth and keep looking
I have 12 Medical Assistants under me, no offense, but medical assistants are low level in the medical field and you don't have to be certified in some states to be a medical assistant to have a job. So it's considered a entry level position.
If it were entry level why can’t you keep
Them ?
It’s insulting to get minimum wage when you have so much experience too! I don’t know about you but McDonald’s and target get a start rate at almost 18!!
Agreed. Many people transition from being MAs into LVNs and RNs in order to see a better investments on return for skills acquired as an MA
I went from a certified medical assistant to an LPN because of doing just as much as a nurse and never got paid squat as an MA. There are some things as a nurse I do more than an MA but it is definitely worth becoming the LPN or RN. I am too old now to bridge to the RN or I probably would have.

Where do you live? A ton of places in Seattle are offering big sign on bonuses and pay $20-25 ish last I was there a few years ago.
Providence St. Joseph Health system paid really well when I was in Alaska
I am going through the same thing. It’s sad but I have yet to find anything better and am having to reconsider career parhs
Yes. Its a yard pill so swallow but that why most MA Move up the ladder.
Completely agree. This is why I stopped working as a medical assistant
Alaska paid really well, it was very hard to give up that position but I was relocating. I am back in my home state of NJ now and the pay is terrible, not a living wage.
Big facts, at my practice we are viewed as nurses we do everything they do
Healthcare industry will take from you what you allow. Its unfair and demanding level to be at. Unfortunately the only way to get paid more and receive respect is to go back to school to move into next level. I've been where you are last 30 yrs and it hasn't gotten better except for those who have gone back to school for a higher degree. If you work at a place that will pay for school take advantage of it and do it. Look at all the ppl who have done it. Its a temporary sacrifice. You can do it.
I am medical biller having 5+ years of experience looking for a remote job as a freenalcer. I am top rated plus freelancer with different platforms. My charges are $10-$15 per hour. Charges are always negotiable. Please reach out to me. Thanks
MA’s are an entry level position into medicine. I know a lot of people who were MA’s or CNA’s as their hourly experience to apply to med school, PA school or nursing school. Using your time to gain experience and move on is your best bet. 💜
I went to school for medical assisting in 2015 graduated 2016 and never found a job as a medical assistant cuz they all required 2 plus years experience. I got hired at my externship site as a receptionist and I took it cuz I didn’t spend a year in school and 26k to not have a job. I worked their for two years then worked my way up the ladder now I make 20 an hour as a receptionist/insurance coordinator.
Look for a job at hospital or prison th er pay the highest. I learned early on when i was a medical assistant family practice isn’t where the pay is great. Do specialty clinics or hospital less work and better pay. For whatever reason prisons pay medical assistant better than lab assistants
