Can’t wait to switch to industry 😓
Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

I disagree. Plenty of tech growth, but it just doesn’t get the press that Seattle does. Are you actually comparing Denver to Pittsburgh? I find the pay to be pretty good, but not all start ups pay FAANG type salaries. People In Denver, me included, get paid pretty well, but not absurdly well, but that’s because I leave the office at noon on friday to go skiing, or hiking, or go to a Rockies game. I would happily take less money than FAANG to live in Denver and enjoy the lifestyle.
Valid points, and yeah Pittsburgh has had incredible economic growth specifically tech wise in the last 10 years. A lot of that is due to CMU and the talent pool there. I just thought it odd given that we have all the ingredients (airport, central location in the US, desirable living, etc.).
Would love to stay here but options are so slim outside of consulting and the COL isn't exactly cheap enough to justify the salary cut that most industry jobs are asking for.
Too many mountains and trees ❤️
🤤 Hopped off a lift at 130pm in the air to work 3 hours later, not many places you can do that!
It takes a long time for a city to build-up a Tech infrastructure. Austin was supposed to be the up-and-coming city back in 84 but it took decades before it was really the huge city for technology that it is today. Pittsburgh started several decades ago with Carnegie Mellon and the robotics program as another example.
It took many years for the Valley to displace Boston as the Tech leader in the country. Now many people don't remember Boston was the leader.
