Why is biglaw leadership so corny? Does biglaw management actually think they are historic, visionary leaders? I like my actual work and most people I work with, but all firm-wide communications make me cringe.

Yes, they do. And they push AI, and I’m willing to bet that the majority of your firm wide comms were drafted or polished by AI.

Some leaders have egos that are severely inflated and they enjoy the games of office politics - the deference they expect from subordinates, the drawn out decision making processes, the competition for firm resources.

The worst offenders are those that came up with the firm through time. They are stuck in how things have been done, failing to strategize for long-term growth in rapidly changing markets and environments.

There should also be a case study analysis on the technology that big law firms use. Why are we operating with systems that have been retired or are no longer supported by the software company?

What’s wrong with AI?

Yes, and its so very cringe, but also, what else would they do? Hey everybody, MPs here, keep grinding it out because some of your senior partners weren't satisfied last year. So really stay on it, and if enough people like you, you can still have a job.

Gen X senior leaders have fully drank the Kool Aid. Their lives and identities are so fully enmeshed in their work that they are no longer able to see how little it actually matters. Work is their life so they think this is reflected in younger attorneys and employees.

Hello folks,
I have an offer in hand by value labs and Accenture and I’m more leaning towards valuelabs. However, I’ve seen a lot of comment online which were made in 2022 and before as well that the job security is an issue in value labs and they will fire a chunk without any prior notice.
Is it true?
I would really appreciate if anyone can shed some on light on this.

Based on the Gross salary offered I have calculated the in hand salary per month would be around 152000 considering 150000 in 80C, 50000 in NPS and 200000 deductions due to home loan interest. Total tax liability is around 400000. Any other options do I have to save tax further (other than HRA, LTA)? Thanks in advance.

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?

Any Atomic Habit readers here? I’m brainstorming identity-based habits for two things I want to change:

-I want to bill more hours, so my goal is to become the type of person who bills at least 8 a day
-I want to drink less alcohol, so my goal is to become the type of person who drinks occasionally

Neither of these feel that helpful. Any one have suggestions for other identity-based goals that get at these changes I want to make?

Lateral that just went through first bonus season with the firm. Not in a major market but workload is comparable to major markets. Surprised at how low the bonus was. I received solid reviews and my annualized hours were well above the requirement. Should I approach anyone about this? Wondering if it is worth addressing or if it could compromise my standing. Thanks in advance!

Former big law associate here who burned out. Now a corporate inhouse counsel.

Been recovering and considering going back to actual legal practice.

I feel I need a new practice area.

One that impacts people’s lives and is meaningful, but where you don’t have to deal with disturbing facts and personal tragedies.

Any suggestions?
