Will I make it in the corporate / consulting world without an MBA or other grad degrees?

Re consulting, if you are an experienced hire, possible based on background/experience. Re corporate, I personally don’t think it makes a difference once you get in the door. I had MANY people in my team (large org) that were from killer schools, MBA, Master in Comp Sci etc and it didn’t matter to me. What are you doing, how are you doing it and what value are you bringing every day? You could be top of your class at (pick one) and I could give 2 craps re your “pedigree” if you are not pulling your weight. All are equal once you get hired. No one even considers your schooling

like

Lol if only that were true “all are equal / no one considers your schooling” // love the rest of what you wrote tho @EY

like

Magic 8 ball says it is possible but unlikely

like

IBM1, for many companies and people out there what EY1 said is true. Couldn't give two shits about where you went to school if you're performing well

I went to a small state school and made partner relatively early (Advisory). Never once has the subject of having an MBA come up in promotions, hiring, boards, etc. So from a Consulting point of view it will not limit you. That said, I think it could possibly limit my exit opportunities at my level in industry and there is definitely a tangible value to the network afforded by a top tier MBA program. If I could do it over I would have gone for the MBA but in this lifetime I could never justify the opportunity cost.

like

No :(

Again, it matters when you are applying, not when you are in. So valuable if you plan to move around company to company, but once you get solid experience behind you, the school will weigh less and the achievements and capabilities will weigh more. That said - equal candidates may get a leg up with a better school because there may be a mental bias - ooooh, he went to MIT- he MUST be smarter than the other guy

A question for VCs: I’m currently a VC analyst. I want to eventually come back to the VC industry and perhaps become a partner (if possible). However, there’s an opportunity to work at an Endowment Fund (Harvard/Yale/Stanford level). Would you recommend me to spend the next 3-4 years doing something that’s not directly VC related? Would it be hard for me to come back to the VC industry with this experience? Why or why not? Thank you so much for your time and help!

Just got another rejection... Is exiting to FAANG or MB really this hard? Trying to go tech.. or mbb, but not getting anywhere. I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? That will never happen!!!

In case of the latter can you guys suggest lucrative technologies which has little/no coding and can definitely give good packages?
