FDD is more accounting focused. CFA is most helpful when you want to get into investment management or equity research. At TAS, lead advisory and Valuations both encourage CFA designation but TS doesn’t
You definitely don’t need to pass level 1 CFA to make the move to FDD, just pass your CPA and try to get a high ranking
Completely unnecessary. CFA is really only valued in asset management roles primarily focused on public equities (including within “high finance” roles - almost none of my PE clients have CFA). Moving to FDD isn’t complicated - just have good audit reviews and network a lot
Yes. It helped. I am an example. Happily transferred just before my senior promotion. I do view it as necessary. Not because it’s necessary to those who are there, some don’t have any credentials, but to show that you are serious and trainable. It will shift your vibe away from being a person in audit who “likes models” to someone who is actively developing skills on their personal time. Shows genuine investment and interest. Kind of like if a random relaxed college kid hits you up saying “I’m dying to work at prestigious xyz llp please refer me” vs some kid that started somewhere else but golly has passed far/reg effectively on their own when some within audit even couldn’t. Leverage it to do more valuation like things in audit work that can help build baby steps for a story on your developing interest. Like auditing a PE fund if you are in FS/FSO/etc. real estate, loan loss reserves maybe, etc. At the Christmas parties try to make a friend and keep in touch.
Passed level 1. Didn’t help. So I quit
What is TAS/FDD???
