When I first started making the transition from an assistant role to full recruiter role, I had a candidate who received 3 rockstar stellar references and one really bad reference. It was for a General Manager position at a $12 million Steakhouse. I only presented the three good references. My client also saw some curious behavior when the candidate came on-site for a final interview - they went out to dinner and when the client asked the candidate if he wanted anything else to drink, the candidate ordered a double shot of vodka and downed it.
Long story short, a week after hiring the candidate and relocating them, the client found his new General Manager passed out on a park bench at 6 o’clock in the morning.
I promised myself I’d never do references for candidates ever again😉
Not even once have I ever put forward a bad candidate.
I did in my very first role because I just wanted the placement sooo bad. Luckily it didn't work out but it was a. goof lesson not to jeopardize things because of my impatience!
