I have a plastic bag from walmart
http://www.patagonia.com/product/crag-daddy-pack-45-liters/48060.html I got the grey, but it didn't have the blue accents. Could probably find it on another site.

I love my Patagonia cragdaddy backpack. Little bit larger than a regular back pack, but I can still carry it as a personal item on flights. Opens up like a duffel bag. Wouldn't bring it to the client site though.
Perfect for leisure then. I usually bring it for work as well, and pack a low profile laptop bag in my carry-on.

Fanger is good. Flyer friendly, laptop section opens up, no need to remove laptops out of the bag during security screening
Love my eagle creek backpack/duffle but I forget what it's called.
Oh it's the eagle creek load hauler. It's expandable and has good pockets and straps.
It will fit under. Sticks out a bit, but never had any trouble with it.
Thanks A1, an important detail I left out is that this is a leisure trip, appreciate the input!
This looks great!
@a1- does it fit under the seat or just in the overhead bin?

I've used my gossamer gear Mariposa 60 for both backpacking in the US and during a 2 week trip through a couple of countries in Europe. I've lent it to 2 different people who have gone on extended trips as well and they've all returned it, still in great shape, and all had good things to say about it :)
