I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?
Any layoff expected in bny ?

Hey guys, Since I am working in Deloitte and right now, I am working from home. I want to go Nepal for 2 months and I want to work from there. Do I need to tell my manager or simply I can go there and start my work. Is there any obligation?
Note- I don't want to tell anyone. Since it may backfire sometimes

No. Statistically more at risk
And what exactly is a DEI hire? Any person of color? We got here by our own merit just like you.
I guess I see your point but still - this post and the statement was not meant to offend anyone by any means and I apologize if it came off like that. Not sure why you would even try to call BS on me being a woman of color and I don’t have to prove that to you either. Who knows - I may have been a DEI hire. I don’t know. I do know that my skills are above average than those in my cohort and that I am there for a reason but again, I’m also a POC + woman so I would fall under being more diverse.
Doubt it. In a layoff scenario, they’re looking at swaths of people, not necessarily individuals. (Only sometimes). So if you meet whatever their criteria is: low util, underperformance, bad reviews, or just a redundant role, you’re on the chopping block.
I think there’s a law that if a business declares a formal layoff they need to be able to report that it did not disproportionately affect the kinds of DEI groups we’re talking about
(Woman here) - giving DEI hires a better opportunity of not being laid off based on their race/sex is just as racist/sexist/etc as using their diverse trait as a premise to not hire in the first place in my opinion.
As long as you perform

If an organization’s criteria for not firing someone is only based on race then surely that’s racist
Yeah exactly - if there are two people who are in a similar boat (underperformer, low utilization, etc) who would go first? The DEI hire or the other?
Obviously yes

What does this even mean? It’s not like there’s some internal flag for people who were hired under certain initiatives, though likely there would be flags indicating a protected class (e.g., disability, veteran status) that might warrant more caution for termination.
The reality of layoffs is that firms are going to look for the biggest bang for their buck, starting with lower performers earning high comp (e.g., MDs/SMs with a pattern of missing sales/revenue goals) and then work their way downward. They’ll also look at growth potential and pipeline as inputs, so certain portions of the business may see a disproportionate impact. And obviously cut in support services (HR, recruiting, IT) since almost none of those are revenue generating positions.
