Don’t live to work! Work should fit into your life not your life adjusting to work.
Easier said than done…
So true! Tough in these days though. What are your tips?
I would move to a new city if more opportunities also got me a higher salary. I wouldn’t move for a one-off is what I’m getting at.
Yes that makes sense
I guess I’m personally of two minds here, curious to hear your thoughts
In my experience the cost of living adjustment in a HCOL area doesn’t justify the move. I have a friend that moved from our medium cost of living area and got a $10k adjustment, which partially covered the increased rent in a smaller home. He really needed to get $20-25k to truly be where he was at first.
Hmm yeah 10k doesn’t seem like a big enough jump
I would consider moving to a different city for cultural reasons or quality of life reasons. I'd be skeptical of doing it purely for a salary increase as I assume the change in cost of living would negate the increase anyway.
I like that thinking, the cultural experience could be great
It depends on personal circumstances. Kids, wife or partner’s job situation would all play a role. Wouldn’t move for purely financial reasons unless the jump is significant (like 50+%) after factoring in cost of living differences.
I would do it provided it added value to my career growth and made sense financially.
I wouldn’t move if I had to pay for it
