Hi all! I’m looking to connect with folks who either work at Coinbase or have interviewed recently for the Business Operations and Strategy Manager or similar role. I am looking to schedule my first interview which I believe is a consulting style case. So any details you can provide, I am all ears. The next interview will be a presentation. Again if you have any experience/advice on this, I’m ready to listen.
Thanks in advance! Help me escape Deloitte pleaseeee. I want this job sooo much!

I’ll preface my thought on your situation with this may be read as overly brash but connotation is lost over text.
While you may feel it is pretty unprofessional, it’s easy to forget you’re not entitled to anything let alone privy to everything going on. Kill your ego. You can ask for transparency throughout the candidacy process but at the end of the day, it is what it is.
If you handle your situation in a strategic and tactful manner, you’ll position yourself to be considered for other roles at said same entity. Kill your ego.
Feel like that’s a different scenario. I don’t expect I’m going to land every role I interview for, especially bc I only tend to interview for stretch positions. Definitely have had that scenario where everything is humming along and then radio silence, followed later by the “thanks, but no thanks” automated email.
I’ve had them cancel 2 mins late before 🤷♀️ I appreciate that they aren’t wasting my time
Yes, this happened to me with Merrill Lynch. They cancelled an interview with me without giving me much of a reason, but I was already in discussions with my current employer so I was like whatever. Looking back though, I thought it was a $hitty move on their part, now I am holding a bit of a grudge against ML. Best is to just move forward, things happen for a reason, and it could turn out much better for you to not work for that mgr.
Def lucked out - ML is hostility at its finest
The deal is never done until it’s done.
Fair enough
While it’s tough - I actually don’t think it’s too bad. As someone who has been on both sides of the hiring equation it’s a reality that until an offer is made and accepted both parties are usually exploring multiple options. Same day cancellations are poor form definitely.
Day before is borderline but as a candidate I’d rather know ahead of time than turn up for an interview where the decision has actually already been made, and then get axed afterwards. That’s just a waste of time all around. I also wouldn’t say it makes any difference if the candidate is internal or external. A lot of companies make their internal candidates go through a process just like external ones do.
Wells Fargo is notorious for not showing up during the scheduled interviews. When they show up, the The excuse is their last interview ran longer than the allocated time.
During the interview, they started saying they only have 30 mins and could not extend because they have other candidates to interview.
What happened when speaking to previous candidates? No wonder it's the worst place to be because they start showing how bad they are from the beginning of the process.
That’s the recruiter trying to put as many candidates into a position as possible and not working with the hiring manager in the hiring process. Don’t hate the company, just understand you’re dealing with a poor excuse for a recruiter.
I'd say it's an overreaction. They could have just ghosted you.
Ghosting typically happens when waiting for a follow up or next steps, if someone were to ghost me by not even bothering to show up to a scheduled meeting, I’d say that’s EXTREMELY unprofessional.
Hopefully that’s not what you’re implying.
It’s okay to vent but at the end of the day, this is just another bump on your journey to a new opportunity. Don’t hold it against the entire company or even that department or even that team. It may not even be that recruiter’s fault e.g. in case the hiring manager decided to expedite the process by going with an internal hire.
No one intentionally is unprofessional. And when they are, it couldn’t be personal…essentially we are all just a package of utility (skills). Think more of yourself when you need to, and disentangle when you need to.
I said a lot but: yes it’s unprofessional, but not a big deal because there are too many people to blame (the recruiter who posted the job externally, the hiring manager who wants to onboard the internal hire, regulations that maybe force them to post jobs on external sites, you for not being a superior hire compared to the internal candidate, etc etc). It’s not worth dwelling much on it, unless you just wanna vent and move on.
Fair, and I’m not dwelling.
I'd say it's really unprofessional. But this thing happens sometimes.
I definitely understand your perspective. It is poor form, but even when an offer has been extended to someone, especially in today’s economy, employers will line up interviews with candidates until the position is filled. There are many offers that go out that are not accepted, so it may have been a don’t put all your eggs in one basket scenario that resulted in really poor timing and experience for you.
When in my search last year, these things happened more than I care to recall and analyze. I’ve become numb to it.
Would you have preferred to have spent to time at the interview and then not got any feedback etc.
This seems to me honest and professional.
Internal hire is always likely to get the priority especially with a recruiters vig in the picture.
Yep it has happened to me. It really sucks when they do this.
